YMS-15 Gyan Classic

When Zeonic company began work on their MS-14 Gelgoog, its rival company, Zimmad, quickly started its own mobile suit development project to compete for the role of replacing the aging Zaku on the front lines. Zimmad's prototype unit was designated YMS-15 Gyan.

The Gyan's battlefield role was specifically intended to complement that of the MS-09R Rick Dom. Whereas the Rick Dom was a heavy assault mobile suit, carrying long-range weapons, the Gyan would take the position of close-range combat. Its primary weapon was a large, high-output beam sword, which the Gyan handled much like a duelist's foil. For defense, the Gyan also carried a circular shield, which was loaded out with 56 missile launchers and 12 highly explosive "Hide Bombs" and space mines, which could be deployed in large clusters to trap enemies, or at least cause enough confusion to allow a hasty retreat.

A total of three YMS-15s were built during the One-Year-War. The development project was supervised by the principality's Colonel M'Quve, who was the driving force behind the mobile suit's aesthetics (particularly the oddly-shaped head, which he supposedly modeled after a porcelain vase from the Song Dynasty). After fleeing to space following the battle of Odessa, M'Quve took one of the three Gyans and pursued the Earth Federation's White Base carrier, hoping to square off with the Gundam. He got his chance in the debris-littered Corregidor Zone, but was eventually defeated at the hands of the Gundam. The Gyan was rejected by the Principality, and was never put into mass-production, and the remaining two Gyan prototypes were never seen again.
