Description

This is a mod of the J-Gundam I submitted yesterday.

The second Neo-Zeon war saw the vast majority of its battles in space. Because of this, the Earth Federation developed a strong bias towards space-combat mobile suits (such as the Jegan). However, mobile suits like the Jegan were designed chiefly for combat in space, and faired poorly in terrestrial combat. Seeing a potential crisis on the horizon, Anaheim Electronics commissioned the R&D department to work on a version of the Jegan that could fight as well on land as the standard model did in space. The design team got to work, and as part of their research, they modified one of their J-Gundam test models into what they hoped would be the perfect design for land warfare: The J-Gundam Ground-Type.

The Ground-Type J-Gundam incorporates all of the most successful design elements seen in previous ground-combat mobile suits, dating all the way back to the one-year-war. Mounted on either leg is a large hoverjet that is reminiscent of the old MS-09 Dom, which was known for its stability and speed. Instead of beam saber racks, the J-Gundam Ground-Type carries two rocket pods on its hips, similar to the three-tube rocket pods worn on the legs of the MS-06J Zaku Ground-Combat type. To prevent sand and dust from getting into the delicate machinery of the J-Gundam's joints, flexible woven-metal sheaths cover the waist and knees. Armored ankle-guards have also been added to the legs. On either forearm, the Ground-Type mounts a pair of grenade launchers, capable of firing a variety of different shell types. Lastly, a large cooling pack has been placed on the ground-type's back, in place of the bulky thruster assembly. The J-Gundam Ground-Type wields a Jegan-type shield and a modified beam rifle, designed to operate under harsh conditions such as extreme heat or cold.

Only one of these J-Gundam variants was built, and it was still undergoing field testing by UC 0099 at an Earth Federation Forces base in Arizona.

Not sure why, but this almost has a Gundam 00 feel to it
